We had lunch together on the deck. Typical Sunday.
We trimmed trees - looking up a lot!!!!!! Cutting branches out and those that had grown too low. Lugging remains to the back 40.
John got a hair cut - he said if I did that, I could go the the Victory Dinner at Playmakers!!! Not that I needed his permission - he needed a haircut!!!!
He took a quick siesta while I got my casserole ready to take. I woke him at 5:30 as I left and he said he was ok and would get his dinner - I left him a steak to grill, fresh strawberries and a crusty roll.
I picked up Leslie and we were off.....................
I returned home just after 8 to see 2 neighbors sitting in my driveway - how nice they chose that place to chat. NOT............ One got in the car and said we are going to Sparrow ER. John had been taken there. yes....another low blood sugar reaction.............
We get there and Janet goes home with her husband who had followed the "bus" to ER.
John is on the bed, neck braced and lots of dried blood from head to toe...........large gash in his head!!! Cat scan of his head is negative. We work to clean some of the blood off. He gets 10 stitches in his head and is released close to midnight. He had to wear "paper clothes" from the hospital as his had been cut off because they were full of blood and sweat. The nice nurse put a warm blanket over his shoulders as we left.
We get home and see the mess. Friends had warned me that it was bad..........bad is not strong enuf!!!!!!!! There were pools of blood in the kitchen - from the fridge to the phone, and in the living room.........I'm talking 4-6 inch pools and lots in between!!!!!!!!! Blood spatters everywhere - up the fridge, cabinets, counters, tables, etc. It looked like a shooting scene on CSI. His sweat pants and a large pink something were in a pile. That was a blanket from the EMTs - started out white, I'm sure. So this is where they cut his clothes off!!
John went to shower - try to get the blood off his body!!!!!!!!!!
I started clean up - wet, hot paper towels to soak all over the floor, then start wiping it up, and using the scrub brushes from the car washing bucket. John helped some - but also needed to eat - he never did get his dinner!!!!!!! There was also an end table knocked around, lamp down, plant down, candy dish and M&M's all over the floor in the living room. John took care of that.
After the floor was scrubed, I mopped with the sponge mop. The ceiling fan really helps dry things faster. John took a couple Tylenol and went to bed. I was still hyped, so went downstairs for a strong drink. It was 3:30 when I went to bed - and couldn't fall asleep.
We were both awake about 8:30 and had breakfast. I put more paper towels on spots on the floor............I think I will be wiping up blood spatters for some time!!!!!!!!!
The phone rang about 9:00 - one of the coaches from Playmakers calling to see if things were ok. My neighbors had called out there trying to reach me - but it was after hours so no one had answered the phone - but after everyone had left (about 8) they looked at a message to send Linda K to Sparrow ER. They tried to call my home - no answer. Tried to call the gal I was with - no answer, but got her husband and by that time I had just dropped Leslie off and was heading home for all the excitement. So nice of the coach to call and check.
John remembers my leaving and he came up to start his dinner. He realized he was getting low. He remembers taking blood sugar reading - 30 - and falling in the bedroom and bathroom. He took off his shirt and wiped down with a towel because of the sweats from a reaction. There is a head print on the mirror over the sink!!! He must have come to the living room and kitchen area - hit head on the brick wall and passed out. He then remembers falling a few times, crawling to phone thru blood and calling 911, EMTs at the door, neighbors letting them in, and the "bus" ride to ER. Maybe it's best NOT to remember too much..........
Today was a slow day for both of us. John was working in the office. I wanted to see quilt friends at Lunch Bunch so went there for a short while, then stopped to get another steak for dinner tonight. I sat on the deck with my book this afternoon and took a short nap. I know John napped after lunch. We will both sleep well tonight - I'm sure!!!!!!!!
I don't know if I should have gotten a pic of the kitchen area last night.........it was really gross!!!
I got the phone and watch this morning.........they are now clean.......and all is well.........
All this on top of the death of Johns' dad on Thursday evening. He had been in Hospice for almost 2 weeks after suffering more strokes and declining very peacefully. Lots of family was here for the weekend and will return for a memorial service on Friday.
I want another drink before bed this evening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a strong one!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday afternoon P.S. - John got the EMT report this afternoon. He was so covered with blood that they could not tell where it was coming from - he was holding his head, so they were looking there and wrapped his head, used stability collar and board. Then they administered oral glucose and IV dextrose to get his blood sugar up. He was taken to ER with no siren. My neighbor says the kitchen area was bloodier than what I saw because they men used that pink blanket (which once was white) to wipe up!!!!!!!!!! I saw the board he was brought in on (standing in the er room) - and it was not a pretty sight.
And now, they know where we hide a front door key so they can get in anytime!!!!!!!

Ohmigosh, Linda,
What a time for you and John. I am so sorry for you both; I am glad that your neighbors could help and that 9-1-1 was so responsive, and that in the end, you are both going to be okay. But - YIKES! Please take it easy, you two, and know that the blood will either be a reminder to eat before the blood sugar gets too low, or will tempt you to stain your floors a new colour.
Good Luck! A drink is a good idea!

Reading this in print is not nearly so exciting as hearing you tell it --- though the pictures of the phone and watch are pretty graffic (sp?). Never a dull moment, huh?1
So glad John is okay. Try and take it easy for a few days.
My dear Linda: This has NOT been a good period of time for you and John. Thank God for your neighbors and that John is OK for now. Glad he was able to call 911 and they responded so promptly. You two are in my thoughts and prayers. Daisy
What an ordeal!!! You both deserve a boring rest of the summer. You must both be so thankful for 911, the paramedics, the health care providers and your wonderful neighbors, and oh yes, the carpet cleaners too. Stay safe. Cindy
linda i'm so sorry! so glad to hear that he is alright! sounds like you both deserve some time of rest and relaxation where no stress is allowed.
