Below Zero in February

This was started early in February when it was below zero and I needed something bright to work on. It is hand pieced and machine quilted.
And it's back below zero.

At least it was this morning when I went for a 4 mile walk - Sunny, 8 degrees and 4 below wind chill...........Brisk!!!


Now it's almost 20!!!


These are produce bags - from BeanieG. Quick project from a fat quarter.

This is a quilt for Ele's Place - along with a large duffle and a tote bag. The fabric is all used up!!!

Lansing Area Patchers has a fabric challenge each year. This year someone else picked the fabrics - you got a piece of the focus fabric and one of six that coordinated. I made up the "rules" and packaged all the fabric. It was called Back to Basics - you had to use basic black, it had to have a basic 9 patch and it had to be a basic shape.

I had all the leftover fabric - so I use it up!!!! The hexagon is my entry - "Black Widow". The black art piece showcases all the fabric and the 9 patch is quilted in.

The other is a small baby quilt - 2 sided - and the fabric is all used up. Thank goodness...it is butt ugly!!!

Wedding Quilt

This is for an April wedding. A young lady that I had in DK is getting married.


I couldn't cut up the floral stripe - so i used it..........made coins with the coordinating fabrics that I had purchased to go with the floral. The back is ALL the leftover pieces. Color is very bad - the lower left is shades of green!!!!!!!!

I used a coupon last evening at Hobby Lobby and got some Rose Cream batt.........I can machine quilt this one myself.

Mango..............our cat. We do think he is going blind, but he still wants to go outside and sit on the front porch..........he did for a little while yesterday - temp hit 35. We are in for a couple more warm days - warm for us is 50!!! Winter cold will return this weekend.

Once we had a Hot Tub........

When we built this house we put a hot tub in the sunroom. I have many good memories of using the tub. A little girl trying to dive to the bottom.........friends enjoying good talks and drinks........4-5 young people making a whirlpool........alone time with John............


But the hot tub leaked and the moisture was not good for the sun room walls - even tho they are cedar............ It has not been used for more than 5 years..............so it's time to go.............


John has been working on it bit by bit. In the back you can see the seats.........


We now have a nice hole in the floor. Decisions of how to fill that need to be made - fill in in and put new bricks, fill it in and put wood and use an area rug..............


No answers yet............ This is what I have been working on during the below zero wind chills in February. Fabric is a collection that I have had on the counter for a few years - fat quarters and a yard of the back..........

I have some triangles for the top and bottom.............not much fabric left.
The lobsters are hanging in the hall to the bedrooms.

The drunken spiders will debut at the library this week.

I will need a new project...........

Spider Webs

I've had three more drinks since I started this............and now it's done!!!!!!!!! The border fabric is kinda like a trellis with flowers in the garden of spider webs.

I don't think it will get any bigger......the trellis just holds it all in!!!!!!!!!!

What has She been drinking?????

This is what I started piecing yesterday.............. I have seen similiar on a couple blogs and books.............just had to try it out.

It is foundation pieced. What takes the longest is cutting all those strips..........but now I have a basket full and just pull what i need. I need to make more blocks!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been drinking any more than usual. Altho I did have a really stiff one last night after taking my mom to the emergency room for high blood pressure..........just needs medication change and monitoring.

I have something readyto hand piece during the Super Bowl - I watch for the commercials.

The Barn Quilt

The quilt top is finished. I will be piecing fabrics for the backing this weekend as I have an appointment with the machine quilter on Monday. This quilt is for the "Barn" - the guest house in West Virginia - summer home of Marcia and Dick. Only for family will I do something like this............

Block Exchange Progress

I have had some sewing time.

I started on the easiest blocks - and have machine pieced seven of them so far.

The center block in the picture is for Georgia - and I'm hand piecing that one. It is not a quickly pieced block!!!!!!!!!!! I have Lisas' block cut out and ready to hand piece next.

Blizzard is predicted for overnight. I am ready........just hope we keep the heat!!!!!!!
