Quilt Show in Grand Rapids

Friday I was on the road early to meet Pat at Smith Owen Quilt Store, have lunch together and go to the West Michigan Quilters' Guild show, Quilts on the Grand.

I found some background fabric to applique on, backing for a music quilt, and some hand quilting thread at Smith Owen and Pat found some things, too. Not that we were going to see vendors at the quilt show!!

We drove to a Panera and had some warm broccoli-cheddar soup and bread.

The quilt show was close by - and what a show!!!

This was one of the many raffle quilts - which I doubt that I will win since I didn't buy a ticket!!
Many of my pictures are of bright, bold quilts. I have used this wavy stripe often lately - love it!!

This quilt just glowed!!

A LOT of batik strips.

Nice, wild and funky!!!

Oh, Won't you peas help in the garden!!!!

Summer is not complete without a lemonade stand.

This was fused - with some decorative threads.

This one was painted - love the stick!!

Nice applique.

These birds were very well done.........

Bev, Barb and a Bottle of Wine. Two ladies had fun!!!!

This is what Georgia is doing for her block exchange this year. We did the pieced blocks and she is doing the applique.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was lovely and won a couple ribbons. It was made by the gal I took a fabric dyeing class from last year. This quilt did not have many of her hand dyed fabrics in it.

I really liked this - flowers cut to fit, and the looks of a great garden trellis.

The center of this is a sun print - and the gradations of colors was so peaceful.

More Brights!!!

This was one of the silent auction quilts - a little appliqued dragon. Detail was pen - tree trunk and branches and grass.

This was also in the silent auction - mini wonky houses.

We met up with Pats' friend Marilyn who is a member of this guild. She has won many ribbons in their shows. She has her ribbons and pictures of her and the quilts in frames.
After enjoying the show, we went to see Marilyns' condo in Byron Center - beautifully decorated and a GREAT sewing studio on the lower level.
We had dinner together at a local cafe - great home cooked food.
It was about 8 pm when I got home. I put away what I had purchased - some more hand quilting thread and some awesome oriental fabric - another idea brewing in my brain!!!

This guild has a show every 2 years with great quilts. They are professionally judged and special ribbons awarded.
I counted 23 categories for the quilts - miniature, small, wall, bed, group, art and garmets. Within the category there was designation for hand and machine techniques and for quilts done by 2 people (a quilter different from the quilt maker) , and pieced or appliqued quilts.
There were also special awards - Best of show, judges choices, best hand quilting and best machine quilting - and viewers choice.
The trees are just beginning to turn some shades of burgandy and red......this is the view as I left Grand Rapids - from the drivers point of view!!!

I agree, it was a great quilt show --- my brain was spinning with all the quilts and vendors! It was nice to see Pat, again --- and nice that the two of you had such a good day together.
