My First 5K and a special birthday (NOT mine)

This is me at the finish line of my first 5K race.
It was an event in Grand Ledge for their Relay for Life. And these are the loved ones waiting for me at the finish line!!!
Three generations of racers!!!!

Alexander won a ribbon for the "Men, 10 and under"

I got a ribbon for the "Old and Decrepid"
Do I hang this with my quilt ribbons???????

I just may keep doing this!!!!!!!!!!

After the race, we came home and showered.
Today was a special birthday dinner for my mom - 89 years young.
My sister came from Virginia, my brother from Indiana, Erin came from Conn, Sarah from New York City and of course, Ashley and the kids from Ohio.

I made Rum Cake on Friday. It's an old recipe that uses 80 proof dark rum.
Andrew helped me make some cupcakes for those who might not like the rum cake. "I help gamma make cupcakes." He wore a chef's apron that said ALLISON on the front - and now wants one of his own!!! I think he can have the one that says ALEXANDER - I will peal off that name and put his on it. Guess I can make a little larger one for Alexander some day soon - or tie a towel around his waist!!!

Allison helped decorate the cupcakes.

Alexander had some cupcakes to decorate, too.

Everyone came in time for dinner.
My dad has recently had shoulder surgery.....but that did not stop these two from enjoying the MSU-Northwestern football game.

Sarah sat with the kids at the card table set up so we could all be in one room.

This is Ashley, John, Sarah and Erin.

After dinner there were a few gifts - including a tiara for the birthday girl!!!

Erin knitted this wonderful cover up - could be a shawl or a lap cover.

Andrew helped take care of wrappings. He talks so much now (just over 2 years old) and likes to help others amd be included in everything. He is very articulate and loving.

The evening ended with lots of hugs..........

It was a nice weekend - family and weather wise.
There will be more pictures in future posts.......soon.

Have you been secretly trainging for the 5K? Good for you. I know I could never do something like that.

Yes, I have been secretly training for this. Ashley has run some races and suggested we do this together - and with Alexander. I didn't tell anyone about it because I was unsure how I would do in the situation. I cannot run the whole way - do running and walking.
I WILL do more and have Ashley to thank for it.
Thanks, Ashley....love you

'Way to go, Linda! And what do you do in your free time, say between midnight and 7:00 a.m. You just don't have enough going on in your life. Daisy

Andrew says to tell you he already started peeling Alexander's name off the apron...if you notice it says "Alexa der". He handed me the "n" and I put it on the counter, but I forgot to tell you about it. =)

Linda - I am totally impressed that you ran a 5K - you go, girl! I'm also impressed that you can bake a rum cake. Did I ever tell you that Roma's rum cake is my all-time favorite cake? But I'm sure yours is better (hint, hint)!!! Great photo of you crossing the finish line. And, as always, darling photos of the grands - we love seeing them! Tell Alexander that I'm so proud of him for winning a running ribbon. Yay!
