Garden Tour

This is my perennial area as you approach the house. It is getting quite overgrown and needs attention.....especially all the violet plants.
Notice the attractive chicken wire - must protect my plants from varmits!!! As you proceed up the front walk you will see poinsettia plants from Christmas and petunias. There are a couple other pots with wave petunias there too. In the evening it smells wonderful. I also have basil and oregano in pots - more than I will ever use!!!
Another view of the front garden. The purple poker plants were new this year. The picture on the pot showed them to be hot pink......oh well. They are still neat looking.

This hangs by the front door and looks almost as good as when I bought it.........guess I've done ok with it!!!! It gets water almost every day.

These balloon flowers are finally blooming!!!!!!! They were eaten down by the deer earlier in the summer. The asters might bloom soon too (they were also eaten). More chicken wire and a bundle of Green Screen that you cannot see.

Hanging downstairs under the deck is the fuscia - blooming regularly. I love it.
I also have 2 boston ferns there. One was hanging in front but the japanese beetles were attacking it, so I moved it - so far, no more damage.

We have eaten and shared beans and squash with friends. The peas are done - and Allison got to have some of those. They are soooo sweet.
While Allison was here the first 3 little tomatoes ripened and we each got one with dinner! There are lots more of those, but we need some sunshine.

This got basted and bound yesterday. I wanted to bind it before I quilted it because the edges were a little unsteady and I didn't want to work on it without finishing those edges. It is heaveily basted and I think I will hand quilt this.

I love your new quilt. The "purple poker" plant is Liatris. They look great. I have some that come back every year. They are well behaved and don't spread too much.

Your garden is as pretty as any we saw on the Traverse City Garden Walk --- although most of them were much bigger and more elaborate (and some of them have gardeners!).

Your perennials are beautiful. I have been pulling out violets by the handfuls. They will still come back next year.

They say to trim down the perennials to make them bushier and you will get more flowers. your deer just did the job for you.
