First Block Exchange Meeting

Tonight was the first block exchange meeting - where we see what everyone has chosen for us to make.

Debra will be part of the group again - with very open directions - make her a "bird block" - a block with a bird theme - pieced, applique or whatever you want.

Roxie was not there, but we have these directions - black and white and bright!!!!!!!!!!!!! Phyllis sent directions from California........we are so pleased that she is still part of the group.
Her block is called Blackford's Beauty. She gave us a couple swatches of fabric - and the block is to be made with fabric that goes with those.
My block is also called Blackford's Beauty - from another book!!! I call it Blackford's Batik Beauty - because I want batik fabrics to be used.
The 2 blocks are similiar - mine has a solid center block and the corner units are different. I provided the background fabric for this one.

Cindy has us making a house that we did for her in 2008. She provides most of the fabric - we need to give it an orange door and light in the windows. She would like some trees to put between some houses please.

Eileen provided some white fabric and we are to made these pinwheels - little ones inside and larger one on the outside. Imagine the secondary pattern this will form!!!!!!!

Dorothy said she has always liked this block. Four shades of red will make a lovely rose. She used a white on cream for the background.

Christmas Packages is the name of this block - and we all loved it!!!!!!!!!! Jan found the pattern in a Quiltmaker magazine.
I know I will have to be extra careful adding the little triangles for the bow - look before you sew, Linda.

Carol has us making a large block with lots of pieces -looks like many can come from my scrap basket!!!!!!!!

Georgia has provided us with strips from shirts that her husband used to wear........
We have to sew them on a muslin foundation, cut them into squares and add the rest. Our directions have a color written on the bag that we are to use with the black triangles.

Beth has many of these blocks from another exchange.......and with what we make, she just might have enough for a queen size quilt.
They are little 6 inch blocks.

Daisy has provided many different leaf fabrics for the center and the squares to the corners.
We need to do the strips in colors that coordinate with the fabric we were given.

Terry is going spooky - vintage Halloween pictures on fabric. We are to make a 12 inch block - adding whatever fabric we wish.

Louise likes little pieces!!!!!!!!! Luckily she gave us LOTS of those little triangle things sewn together and we just have to sew them together in strips. And use a novelty and surrounding triangles to make the block.

Lisa is going lavender!!!!!!!! The background is white or white on white and we provide 2 shades of lavender.........and a center.

Bonnie has us make these blocks for her a few years ago. She has found that many of them are dark so asked us to make them again - just not tooo dark.

Ruth is using the same block pattern for a Sadie and Dora quilt - using colors of her Michigan Brown dogs.

Bonnie passed out the next quilt-a-long pattern............maybe I'll do that first!!!!!!!!!!!!
Check her blog for pics of some of those block - all are so different - and beautiful!!!

Thanks a bunch, Linda; it helps me so much to see the models.
Great group of blocks this year (as always). I think your's is the true Blackford's Beauty; I looked it up in Jinny Beyers new block book. Mine had a different name, which I promptly forgot.

I see you got these "up" even faster than you thought. It is helpful to be able to check out the blocks --- they are all really neat and I look forward to making them and receiving!
