Quilt Group Meetings on Monday

First of all, my Christmas cactus is blooming.....again. Second, All Around Lansing is finished, ready for the 150 Art Exhibition.
Lunch Bunch met at my house. We usually meet at Foster Center but because of the MLK holiday, the center was closed. We used to meet in homes, but got too big and the center is centrally located and makes a nice place to meet. There are plenty of tables to work at and lots of floor space to spread out quilts for viewing.
I had ordered subs from Jersey Giant and Ruby brought sweets for dessert, so it was a nice time for all.

We just sit around and gab and quilt..........and enjoy each others' company.

Late in the afternoon, I took this picture inside the sun room. The icicles are amazing.

Block Exchange held it's first meeting of the year with a potluck at Ruths'.

The food is always good........

After eating, we sit around and each person talks about their block.

Much talk!!!!

Ruth showed off her block exchange quilt from last year - oriental fabrics with black.

This is the basket for Roxie - White background, lime green basket and purple flowers.

Yes, this looks like the oriental quilt that you just saw in the picture with Ruth. I am asking for flowers, veggies, birds, and the occasional bug. It will be for my sister and husband for Christmas as we have their name for 2009. My sister is a master gardener and they are "birders."

Beth has provided us with all the fabrics for this simple 9 patch. She is then going to make it disappear into another pattern for a charming baby quilt.

Carol saw a quilt with this pattern - and decided it would be good to have all her friends make it for her. The directions can be found on Beths' blog - The Quilt Doctor. Carol wants reproduction fabrics.
I wonder how many friends Carol will have when this exchange is over????

Georgia had the floral and we will make a Christmas Bouquet for her. She has provided some of the fabrics - but we will add a couple reds and pinks to complete the block.

Louise gave us an empty baggie!!!!! We are to fill it with strings from squared off yardage, triangles from magic corners, leftover pieces from strip quilting, fabric with fussy cut holes, bits and pieces......
This is what she creates with all that!!!!!!!!!!! She is amazing.

Daisy wants a brown and blue house. She will make a wall hanging for her family room. Love the light in the windows!!

Cindy has privided us with most of the browns for this quilt. It's for a family with 4 young boys - rough and tumble browns are in order!!!!!

Jan is back with reproduction fabrics and an old fashioned block - Crosses and Losses.

Terry wants soft blues and greens for this little block - it's only 8 inches.

Rainbow Sherbet!!!!! That's what I call what Lisa wants this year. It looks so springy.
Something we need to work on right now in the dead of winter!!!

Eileen provided us with the strips for this block. She has already made a few samples. The strips are from some jelly rolls she got as a present. Lucky gal!!

Dorothy has something very simple for us to do. It's called the Cumberland Block and we can easily do a couple for her.

When together those blocks look like this..........can you find the star???

Bonnie likes things scrappy - so we will sew 16 squares together. The blocks will be part of something larger......someday........

Ruth and Phyllis have directions that have no sample - we are to be creative and make a Michigan block for Phyllis (she moved to California) and an interpretive block for Ruth.
Debra is also part of the group and will get her directions to us soon.
Progress will be posted in the future. It's always a joy to see these quilts come together......

Thank you, Ruth! I HOPE you all will be my friends! We all need a challenge, once in a while! It's great to see the quilt pictures ---helps to remember the requests.

Carol -- I ditto Ruth's comments. Also, when you look at the block and break it down, it looks not so difficult. Daisy

ditto Beth's and Carol's comments on this being a resource--esp. when doing it long distance. Thanks, Linda (and Ruth, I'm sure). Carol, my only problem is assembling the fabrics (can you believe!!)
So glad I joined; itching to get at them. Think I'll do Louise's first!
