In the garage is a small "dirt bike" that belonged to Tom and/or JR. Barb pumped up the tires and we all worked with Alexander. It was hard - he was frustrated - he fell into bushes, grass, weeds, flowers - he had a hard time stopping any other way!!!! He had a hard time getting started on his own - the balance issue.....
But soon he was going on his own up and down the sidewalk.
We loaded the bike in our trunk and went home to fix dinner.
Soon he had a "track" - from the driveway, around the circle, into the neighbor driveway and across their and our front yards, then out the next neighbor driveway. He was going strong. Yes, he had a few falls - but he was tough. At one point, he came to show me blood dripping down his shin - "I'm ok."
He used the knee, ankle and wrist pads from his inline skates for awhile, but shed that.
He will be using the helmet tomorrow.

Oh this brought back memories --- of me learning to ride a bike and then, years later, helping our kids learn to ride. Falling down/off is so much easier then using brakes! One thing we haven't found, in the sixty-seven years accumulation at my Mom's, is old bikes! Congratulations to Alexander!
