Sauder Village - May 2012

My friend Pat and I went to Sauder Village on Wednesday.    The quilt show has MANY traditional quilts and some art ones.    This first picture is the prize winner for the challenge - using certain fabrics and Ohio Star blocks.   This one was fantastic.

Starry, Starry Night - another challenge quilt.

This was made after a trip to the Southwest.
The Art Quilt winner  - done in 3 sections, beaded together.
This little one is for Ruth - VERY well done little quilt.
Winning baby quilt - lots of embellishment.
Encircled - made by me!!!    Queen size.
This was machine quilted by Jewel from Diamondale.
Winner for wall quilt and for color.
My winning art quilt - and the blue ribbon for Innovation.

Hopefully this quilt will find a home at the Lansing Symphony office.

A Ricky Tims pattern - well done.

I love this guy!!!!
Pat and I took 2 classes from Karen Kay Buckley.   Thursday was hand applique.   We both liked the technique of using spray sizing and pressing seam allowance over the shape of your piece, then proceed with the hand stitching.   We also learned about good threads to use for applique - expensive ones!!!

We walked over to the barn for dinner that night after sitting in a little garden area enjoying the sunset.  I even got a 4.5 mile walk in that afternoon - mega winds and humidity, but a trip to the pool cleaned me up!!!!
Friday was paper piecing.   It was great!!!
Friday evening was the awards banquet and a talk by Karen.
Pat and I had a good time in classes, at the show and dinner.
We  met many new gals - from Ohio and lower Michigan - and hope we will see them again!!!
This is Karen and all the blocks that were made Friday.    We spent the morning paper piecing the wedges and the afternoon machine appliquing the inner and outer parts of the block.

So many great color combinations.

Karen is an EXCELLENT teacher.    I would highly recommend her.

I am sooo glad we had the opportinity to do this.   The Inn is a quiet, clean, homey place to stay.    The set up for classes is just right - tables, plugs, ironing stations, etc.  The staff of Sauder is very well organized for this event - the show and classes.    Special thanks to Dawn and Linda and the gal at the desk with the band-aids.........

Thanks for posting the photos from Sauder (esp the little chickadee quilt). It is *almost* as good as going with you guys to see the show (altho it makes me miss everyone!).

I'm glad your class went well. Do you know who the teacher is for next year? Maybe I'll be able to make a trip out.
