Busy Whirlwind Few Days

Friday morning, Pat and I went to Archbold, Ohio to the Quilt Fair at Sauder Village. We checked into the Inn, and went to the village. First stop was the Herb Shop for me - Thyme, lemon and orange peel were on my list. Second stop was the Quilt Shop - I was there last weekend , but found a couple pieces for my next art quilt. Pat got her share!!!! We took our purchases to the car, and went into the quilt show with only our cameras - nice not to have too much to carry!!!
The quilt show was very nice. The lady at the piano had me singing as I walked around the hall. So many beautiful quilts!!!!!!!!!!!

The next picture is of Pat and me outside the building. We usually go with the "group" from Lansing on Sunday - and stay to pick up the quilts after the show. The group is there today - as I write - and I know they will have a great time. I miss going with them, but this was a special occasion for me.

Friday eve was the Awards Dinner. About 100 for dinner, speaker, and then slide show of the winning quilts. Such nice ladies.......... We celebrated with wine in our room - don't tell the Sauder Inn - I think it's dry!!!!!!!!!!! This is Nelda's Orb. It won for the use of color. The judges said, "Harmonious use of vibrant color. Black and white printed border provides a good contrast to the color composition."
This art quilt won for Innovative Piecing. The judges said - "Interesting collage of individually assembled and quilted blocks shows true imagination."

Ruth won an Honorable Mention for her little Australian landscape quilt.

And she won another for her "Trouble with Trebles" from the Michigan Quilt Artist Invitaional.

The other quilt I entered was "Olympic Triangles" - pieced during the winter Olympics in Vancouver this year.

Lisa had a quilt in the show, too, but I'm sorry I didn't load it up here...........sorry, Lisa.
Pat and I drove back on Saturday morning with a stop at a country nursery. We both got georgous pink petunia hanging baskets. I got tomato and pepper plants for the vegetable garden and orange and purple impatiens for the front garden. The peas are up a couple inches - gotta get the fence up!!!!!
Pat dropped me off at the library - my Saturday to work. John picked me (and my stuff) up
after work and we sent to Munn Ice Arena to pick up the packet for my 10K run on Sunday morning.

Sunday morning it was raining. We got up at 6am!!!! John dropped me off near the start of the race. Most people were hanging out in the parking ramp nearby!!!! Many wore plastic ponchos and rain gear but the brave were bare headed and in shorts!!!!!!!!!!

I was brave - left the hat in the car because it looked like the sky was clearing................NOT!!!!
It rained the whole race!!!!!!!! I have never gone this distance in a race - 10K - nor gone this fast anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!
John was waiting for me at the Sparty statue with the camera - drowned rat that I was.

The finish was on the 50 yard line in Spartan Stadium. It was awesome to run thru the tunnel and into the stadium. I was taking it all in and forgot to look at the jumbotron!!!! Times are not posted yet, but I think I did it in about 1 hour, 20 minutes........
John got me crossing the finish line - fans had to be in the stands making picture taking a little difficult.
This is the first time John has come to see me in a race - and he got up at 6 to do this!! I love him.

I came home to a warm shower........no, a hot shower!!! It's after noon and I think I'm ready to shed my hoodie!!!! It is 60 degress outside.
Now, back to life - cleaning bathrooms, laundry, scheduling High Scope work and hopefully a little sewing!!!!!!!!!!!! May will be busy with work for High Scope in Battle Creek, Mt Pleasant, Ovid, Lansing, etc. ----and work at my library!!!!!
And the Red Wings play this evening!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a great few days - filled with lots of GOOD things.

Time just posted - 1:19:40 and than means a 12:49 mile!!!!!!!!!! WAHOO!!!!
It didn't seem like that much time..........
Maybe I can do a half-marathon!!!!!!!!

Congrats on a great race - so glad that John was there to see you and take your finish photo!

So glad too that you and Pat were able to go to the award dinner and stay over - what fun! Congrats again on the two big prizes (BTW Carol Seamon noticed that your black ribbons turned out to be navy blue in the sunlight).

I did the 5K Heart of a Spartan and the rain wasn't too bad. My time 43.11 or a 13.54 mile. I'm quite proud of my first race. I did remember to watch myself on the jumbo tron. I'm hoping some Spartan scouts were in the stands, saying, "Yeah, the slow old lady looks good!"

Congrats Linda, you did great. I'm looking forward to Elle's Place Run.

Way to go, Linda, on all fronts! Fantastic work on the quilts, AND the race. At least you don't get too hot and sweaty running in the rain! CONGRATS! X O Irene

Congratulations on your run. My daughter has started running and I am so impressed by the folks that get out there and do it. She has been in three 5k runs so far and will be doing her first 10K on the 15th.
