Block Exchange 1

Last evening was the final meeting of this years' block exchange.
We turn out some pretty quilts.

The first is Carols' fall stars - she has informed us that we will be doing this again next year........ These pastel stars are for Kari - it looks like a summer quilt to me!!

Phyllis is making this calendar quilt for a sister. A block a month - we were assigned a certain month......can you figure them out? There are 2 for July and a couple missing.
Another case of picture on the side, sorry.......

Dorothy had us make a basket block on point - similiar to a raffle quilt she liked. She will be making more blocks - or we will be doing this one again next year.........

Daisy is making this for her grandaughter, Rose. A girlie quilt!!!!

On the left is a quilt for Eileens' parents wedding anniversary.
On the right are quilts for little boys from Auntie Ruth - we did either a dolphin or a tiger in the center of the block.

Block Exchange 2

Here are more blocks................

These are bright, fun houses for Louise. Sorry they are on the side....... Lisa also had us use bright fabrics - my fav lime green!!!!

Terry has had us doing this block for 2 years - it's for her daughter, Erin, so that is ok.
We all have watched her grow up - and would do anything for her.
Some complained about the hand work in this block, but I loved it.....it is beautiful.

Jan wanted sailboats - but says she has no planned voyage for them.....yet.

Cindy had us doing double 4 patch with black and white and brights - this will be a happy quilt.

This is mine - a wedding present for my niece, Erin, who is marrying a man in the navy, thus the navy and white... I think I may put the blocks on point.
You can see a batik in the corner that will be corners or borders.

This beautiful applique is from Georgia. We did the snowballs around. She is the best appliquer that I know......

More dyeing

I did not dye any yellow or green when in Muskegon............so I did some this morning...........
Looks good on the line!!!!!!!!!!!

Michigan Quilt Network in Muskegon

This is the view from my window at the Holiday Inn in downtown Muskegon.
There is a lot of renovation going on there - someday it will be thriving.....as
many downtowns are working on similiar projects.

The Museum of Art was very interesting.....great marble entryway. I made a connection with the director - possibilities for me and for Michigan Quilt Artist Invitational exhibit.

I did a storytime for some ladies - they all enjoyed being entertained and I heard many positive comments druing my stay there. thank you
My friend, Pat, came on Saturday morning and we saw the show and vendors. There were less than 100 quilts in the show.

I took a dyeing fabric class on Saturday afternoon. GREAT FUN and I want to do more!!
Sunday afternoon after golf, I rinsed the fabrics on the driveway. John was concerned that we would have a "one of a kind" driveway - but I assured him it was ok - and it was.
I'm excited to do more dyeing..........stay tuned.

This was an exercise in red to yellow...........mostly red!!!

This was the blue gradation sample..........I like all the texture.

This was using all colors in flat containers. The yellow did not stay bright because it got jiggled in the car coming home late Saturday night. I will try again with this - you have to raise the yellow parts and keep them from the darker colors.

I had a wonderful time. The ladies from MQN were all very friendly.
Next September their conference will be at the Lansing Center......maybe I'll go again.

All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth!!

All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth!!!
One is already coming in!!
This pony was purchased at an after auction from WKAR - local public radio station - for Allison when she was a pony lover. Now Andrew likes it, too!!

We have kept this box since Alexander was little - decorated by children and enjoyed still!!!
Three can still fit inside!!!!

Saturday the kids were here for a little while.
They had all the housekeeping stuff out - and the dressups- Andrew fed a baby!!!
He knew just what to do......

Someone was given a hat with the skull and crossbones.......and with the hood on his shirt, he was quite the hoodlum!!!!!!!!
Notice the bedtime snack - cereal and juice!!! Whatever floats your boat - or fills your stomach!!!!
Such wonderful children. We LOVE to see them.

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend was full of family - including two week old Lawson.
The Kuhlman family always gathers for a day at the lake. Lots of sand, water and good food.
Tubing was a BIG HIT!!!
Aunt Tina helped Alexander and Allison "go fishing" - each was successful in catching some little sunfish - and releasing their catch after the obligatory photo op!!
The day ends with s'mores by the fire..........yummy!!!
There are 5 Great Grandchildren now........Allison noted that next year there will be three little boys - 1 year old Lawson, 2 year old Andrew and 3 year old Xavier!!!!!! That girl is always planning ahead!!
Thank you to Christine and family who have the place for us to get together.
Monday we went to the Thomas home for brunch. My sister, Barb, and brother, John, were in town. So we had to spend a little time there.
Sorry, no pics..............

Young Hummer

This young hummingbird spent the day on our deck........
I was able to get within 3 feet of her.......
