Here we are - me, Lori, Janet and Leslie. Heading to the Leading Ladies Marathon and 1/2 Marathon (for me). All our stuff in the little car!!!
We stayed at the KOA KamperKabin in Albert Lea, MN the first night.
Early the next morning, after getting gas, we met up with the Jolly Green Giant - and were interviewed for local radio.
After crossing into South Dakota we spent very little time using the rest stops - IN AND OUT!!!!
We stopped to see Mt Rushmore before checking into the KOA in Spearfish.
After picking up our race packet on Saturday, we drove the race route - the scenic highway in the Spearfish canyon.
Our alarms went off at 3AM and here we are waiting for the bus to take us up the canyon to the start of the race.
And further along in the canyon. I took lots of pictures along the way.
SURPRISE!!!!! At the end of the race, who should I spy but my brother and his wife who life in Wyoming. And their dogs!!
The car had been giving us problems and we ended up spending most of the day at the Nisson dealer in Rapid City. Here we are transferring our stuff to a rental car so we could head home. Lori will have to drive that back to Rapid City and get hers.
My race t-shirt and medal.
This is the first destination race that I have done. It was a real adventure - things I haven't mentioned above - mooned in Minn, corny Corn Palace stop (what a tourist trap!), lost on logging road finding the race course, tire picks up hex head screw, car trouble, flying carmel sauce, hotel stop at 2:30am, LONG last day drive home...........I am thinking about doing more destination 1/2 marathons...........yes, really I am!!!!!!!!!!!!
For a really good version of our adventure you need to read Lori's blog - http://througharunninglens.blogspot.com She is a writer and tells a much more detailed version of the adventure - and will be doing it in more than 1 post.

sounds like a fun trip and race! I like the "downhill all the way" aspect :)
